http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nofollow-case-by-case/

Hope this helps.

Just checked and Akismet has blocked 149,976 spam comments so far. WP SpamFree has only blocked 8,650. I'm guessing those are the ones Akismet missed, but it's still a good sized chunk so it's probably a good idea to have both running.

Although it's not spam, I have made it a policy to delete comments that are off topic or contribute nothing to the discussion. While I might appreciate people complimenting a post or agreeing with something I wrote, those comments add nothing of value to other readers. I have also had to delete comments that, although thoughtfully written, were obviously done primarily for the purpose of promoting the poster rather than contributing to the discussion, especially when the poster is a huckster (all too common in my industry).

I'm wondering though, with the "nofollow" attribute, what about links I put in my own comments on my blog back to my other posts? Is there a way for me to set it up so this does not apply to links in posts I make on my own blog for times I want to help someone else's ranking?

When I first started to leave comments, I would leave those same dumb useless comments. I never meant for them to be spam. Now that I have started to build my own websites, I look at them completely differently.
Sometimes I wonder if Google should have kept that aspect of their algorithm a secret, but I guess people would have figured it out anyway. Either that or the information would leak out.
Building backlinks is a bit like dating. Just like you have to acquire wealth to impress the opposite sex, you have to show your ability to survive on the web.
I hope someday that some genius will figure out a better way to design a ranking system for search engines. But I am not holding my breath.

I would consider a comment as quoted by InF as a spam, if the commenter would have said, here is a link to my *blah blah blah*

Comment spam is among the most difficult to detect and block, since they look so legit.

Someone might say the following as a comment:

"Hi! Very interesting article. Found it through [a legit website here]!"

Is it comment spam? No, but it does look like it. (Though it's not a very useful comment to post)
